Boro Beck Trail Directions

Boro Beck Circular Walk – Explore Helmsley’s Scenic Countryside Trail

Follow our step-by-step directions for the Boro Beck Circular Walk in Helmsley. This easy-to-follow walking route guide takes you along peaceful stream-side paths, through a valley and open fields, and around the beautiful countryside of Helmsley — the perfect way to explore the charm of the North York Moors on foot.

1. Start at Cleveland Way Car Park

Start from the Cleveland Way Car Park and make your way past the toilets following the vehicular way out to the B1257 (Helmsley to Stokesley Road). Turn left as if you were heading to Stokesley.

2. Feversham Arms Hotel

When you reach the B1257 and turn left, it is best to cross the road to the other side so that you are on the same side of the road as the Feversham Arms Hotel. You will see the former Victorian Workhouse on the left of you as you walk along the street.

3. Public Right of Way

As you walk towards the bend, you will notice two public rights of way. At the second public right of way, you will see a path that follows the flow of Boro Beck. Follow this path at beck side with the beck on your right hand side.

4. Footbridge

Cross the footbridge over Boro Beck and head uphill along the narrow path until you reach a track.

5. Follow the Track Left

At the top of the hill, turn left on the track towards a Saw Mill with Boro Beck on your left hand side. Keep following this track until you reach a split.

6. Turn Right at the Split

When you arrive at the split in the track, turn right along the narrowest track. Follow this track and flow of Boro Beck through the valley and woodland until you reach a hill.

7. Follow the Track Uphill

The flow of Boro Beck continues through the valley yet the track will head up hill. Keep following the track up hill until you get to the top. You will see a field gate, but instead, follow the sign post down a wooded path on the left.

8. Follow the Woodland Trail

Keep following the woodland path with the trees on your left and open fields to the right. This will take you to a track at the other end of the path.

9. Turn Right and Follow to the Left

When you arrive at the track, the track heads straight on to meet up with the B1257. However, instead, turn right and follow the track towards the fields. Keep following the edge of the woodland with the fields on your right and trees on your left. Keep following it until the woodland protrudes out towards Braxton’s Sprunt (a country lane).

10. Follow Braxton’s Sprunt (right past a farm)

It may take a little while to get to Braxton’s Sprunt following the trees around. This will pass a farm on your right too. When you arrive at the lane, turn right back to Helmsley and follow this lane all the way back to Helmsley with the Howardian Hills facing you in the distance. You will pass Helmsley Open Pool on your descent into Helmsley.
